Marcella Marcy Liegel

Marcella “Marcy” Liegel, age 89, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Sunday, August 28, 2022. She was born on August 17, 1933, the second of five daughters born to the late Wilma (Karasek) and Michael Martin. She grew up on the Martin Family Farm in Seven Mile Creek near Lyndon Station, and shared many adventures with her sisters.

Marcy married the love of her life, Wilbert “Bill” Liegel on October 29, 1960 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Lyndon Station. They lived in their home on Walnut Street in Sauk City for almost 50 years. Bill and Marcy enjoyed traveling with family and friends, with special trips to Ireland, Italy and Hawaii. They were members of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where they served as greeters for many years. Marcy’s Catholic faith was very important to her.

Marcy was a fabulous cook and baker. Her potato salad was always requested for family gatherings. Marcy enjoyed hosting family celebrations and decorating for each holiday, especially St. Patrick’s Day. She was proud of her Irish heritage, and was a great storyteller. Marcy had a fun sense of humor and beautiful smile.

Marcy was a devoted wife, mom, and grandma; family made her life complete. Her home was filled with love, laughter and hugs. The lights of her life were her grandchildren, and they could always count on Grandma to have freshly baked cookies and a full candy dish. Marcy was looking forward to becoming a great grandma soon with the arrival of Baby Diedrick.
