Manziel to start for Montreal Alouettes
Johnny Manziel is about to get his shot in the Canadian Football League.
The Montreal Alouettes announced Tuesday that the former Heisman Trophy winner will be starting for the team Friday night against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The start will be Manziel’s first in the CFL and his first substantial playing time since being released by the Cleveland Browns following the 2015 season.

Manziel had served as a backup behind Jeremiah Masoli for the Tiger-Cats and played in two preseason games for the team before being traded July 22 to Montreal.
The former first-round NFL draft pick also played parts of two games for the Spring League in April in a bid to resurrect his career.
Montreal has struggled to a 1-5 start on the season behind four different quarterbacks and sits tied for last place in the CFL’s East Division.
