Mantle’s 1964 World Series jersey sells for $1.32M
One of Mickey Mantle’s jerseys from the 1964 World Series sold at auction for $1.32 million.
The Yankees great wore the jersey when he homered in Games 6 and 7 in St. Louis. New York ultimately lost the series to the Cardinals despite Mantle’s performance in what would be his final World Series.
The Game 7 home run gave Mantle a total of 18 World Series homers in his career, a record that still stands today.
The previous mark for a Mantle jersey was set in 2017 when a road jersey from his final season in 1968 went for $486,000, according to The Associated Press. The most ever paid for a baseball jersey is $4.415 million paid for a 1920 Babe Ruth jersey.
The Heritage Auctions’ Summer Sports Collectibles also included a 1952 Topps Mantle rookie card that sold for $810,000.
