Kristopher R. Breister

A man carrying a realistic-looking shotgun was swearing and charging at people near Capitol Square on Friday afternoon, according to a release from Madison police.

Police said Kristopher R. Breister, 29, was frightening some people and making them run away.

A detective pulled his squad car between Breister and a group of young people in a North Butler Street parking lot. Police said Briester began yelling and cursing at the detective. As other officers responded, Briester headed into an alley. Officers said they could see that he was taking off his coat and hiding something.

Briester was safely taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct. Police said there was a fake shotgun in his coat.
