Man wanted for retail theft leads area authorities on high speed chase

A man wanted on retail theft charges is in custody after leading authorities on a high speed chase.

It started earlier Wednesday, around 12:01 a.m., when La Crosse and Onalaska officers tried to stop the suspect’s car.

The Wisconsin State Patrol joined the pursuit after the suspect made his way onto I-90 eastbound.

He continued to drive at a high rate of speed and the pursuit was ended near MP 12.

The suspect’s car was located a short time later at Loves Truck Stop in Oakdale.

When officers approached the man, he returned to his vehicle and sped out of the parking lot nearly hitting an officer.

A short time later, the car attempted to pass a truck and livestock trailer on the median side of the interstate. The suspect lost control, struck the trailer and his car became disabled. He then ran from the scene.

Officers from the State Patrol, New Lisbon Police Department, Mauston Police Department, and the Department of Criminal Investigation searched the area and eventually located the suspect in a nearby field. He was taken into custody without incident.

Charges for the man are pending.
