Stevens Point man sentenced to 10 years in prison
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. — A 23-year-old Stevens Point man who was texting while driving has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing a crash that killed a man nearly two years ago.
WSAW-TV reported John French also will spend seven years on probation.
French pleaded no contest to second-degree reckless homicide in Wood County court in a plea deal in September.
According to the crash report, French was driving on Dec. 6, 2010, when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a car. French’s sport utility vehicle then collided with another SUV driven by Robert Walker. Walker was thrown from his vehicle and died at the scene.
According to the criminal complaint, French admitted to texting at the time of the crash.
