Man sentenced to 18 years in prison for Madison hotel homicide

MADISON, Wis. — A man who pleaded guilty to a deadly shooting outside an east side Madison hotel will spend the next 18 years in prison.

Jalyn Cain-Roberson was sentenced Friday in Dane County court. In addition to the 18-year prison sentence, Cain-Roberson received an additional 12 years of probation.

The prison sentence will begin immediately.

Cain-Roberson pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide in July as part of a plea deal. Charges of first-degree intentional homicide and bail jumping were dismissed as part of the agreement.

The fatal shooting stemmed from an argument between Cain-Roberson and another man, 18-year-old Dembo Jammeh, at a local gas station. The confrontation continued after Cain-Roberson followed Jammeh to the Red Roof Inn on Hayes Road and shot him three times. Jammeh was found at the bottom of an exterior set of stairs and was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
