Man sentenced for assaulting wife with hammer

MADISON, Wis. — A Cottage Grove man was sentenced Friday for assaulting his wife with a hammer last year .
Randy Frye, 35, threatened to kill himself after assaulting his wife with a hammer in the Village of Cottage Grove on May 9, 2016.
Frye was sentenced to 13 years in state prison, followed by 10 years of extended supervision.
Frye was found guilty in June during a jury trial of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
According to a criminal complaint, Frye showed up around 6:45 a.m. at a Chateau Drive home to discuss a custody issue.
The woman, who had head injuries, told police Frye assaulted her with a hammer, and he was still inside the residence when police arrived.
