Man found in apartment identified; homicide suspected

A man whose death is being investigated as a homicide has been identified.

Police said a person of interest is in custody in connection with the death of Larry Ewing, 76, of Madison, whose body was found April 18.

Madison police have not identified the person of interest, but said the person is in custody on a probation hold.

Ewing was found April 18 in his west side apartment, and his death is being investigated as a homicide, Madison police said.

Officers were called to an apartment in the 5000 block of Sheboygan Avenue at 11:01 a.m. after neighbors noticed piled-up newspapers outside Ewing’s apartment.

Police believe that Ewing was targeted and that there is no threat to the general public. The person of interest and Ewing knew one another, according to an update from police.

Officials have not said what caused Ewing’s death, but detectives assigned to the case said there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Officials ask anyone who saw anything suspicious in the 5000 block of Sheboygan Avenue to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
