Man found dead on frozen pond, police say

Beaver Dam police investigate death of middle-aged man

Police are investigating the death of a man officers found lying frozen on a small body of water in Beaver Dam.

The Beaver Dam Police Department said a middle-aged man was found Tuesday at about 1 p.m. lying unresponsive on a snow-covered retention pond. The body of water is behind businesses on the 1600 block of North Spring Street.

Police said a vehicle was found in the area running and investigators are working to determine if the vehicle belonged to the victim. It’s also possible the man who died had rented a nearby storage shed.

The Dodge County Medical Examiner pronounced the man dead at about 4 p.m.

The cause of death is unknown, but an autopsy is scheduled Wednesday, police said. Foul play is not suspected.

“We think that the weather certainly played a factor in the death of this individual. But the set of circumstances that led to the individual being in that condition and being found in the retention pond are something we’re still investigating,” Beaver Dam Police Department Det. Ryan Klavekoske said.

Police said the man’s name is not being released as authorities notify family.
