Live pigeon shooting was once an OIympic sport, albeit only for the 1900 Summer Games in Paris. Competitors had to kill as many live pigeons as possible, with the birds being released one at a time from "traps" in front of the shooters. Participants were eliminated once they missed two birds. Nearly 300 birds were killed during the competition. After the 1900 games, the pigeons were replaced with clay targets.

A Chinese motorist was fined after he released dozens of pigeons from his car on the side of a highway.

Traffic cameras show the man pulled his car to the shoulder of the road and release the birds.

The man told police he had been keeping the pigeons but decided to set them free, according to SupChina.

The man was fined about $29 and lost six points from his license for parking in the highway’s emergency lane, SupChina reported.
