Man fatally shot by Dane County deputy in Oregon ID’d

OREGON, Wis. — The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man fatally shot by a Dane County deputy in Oregon over the weekend.

Jose Jimenez, 21, of Oregon, died from “firearm-related injuries,” the medical examiner’s office said in a news release Thursday afternoon. Further testing is underway.

Officials said police received an emergency call about a weapons violation in the village around 11 a.m. Sunday. According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Jimenez allegedly committed multiple weapons violations in the area in previous days.

Four hours later, a deputy found Jimenez near Eagle Drive and Jefferson Street.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, fired their weapon. Jimenez died at the scene despite life-saving measures.

The justice department said a gun was found at the scene.

Details about what led the deputy to pull the trigger remain unclear.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

The DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the shooting.
