A Madison man was surprised to find a stranger in his home Saturday night, police say.

The man told officers he was expecting a family member to come over, so he left his garage door open, as well as the door to his house unlocked. He lives on Golden Maple Road, according to a release from the Madison Police Department.

The man says the stranger quickly departed once he was spotted. Two sets of keys hanging inside the home were taken, according to Joel Despain, the public information officer for the Madison Police Department. The sets contained fobs to the couple’s car and keys to their home, Despain said.

The man’s wife and baby were upstairs at the time of the burglary, Despain said.

A neighbor has a surveillance video system and recorded a group of teens roaming the neighborhood before one went up to the victim’s home, according to the release.
