Man dies after falling from 24-foot ladder

A Bloomington man died three days after he fell from a 24-foot ladder while working on a barn.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said Robert Mathre, 57, was working Friday morning on a farm on Pine Road in the town of Mt. Ida. He was fixing fans that he had previously installed on a barn.

Deputies said Mathre’s ladder was set up in the free-stall barn and it’s believed that one of the cattle might have hit the ladder and caused him to fall.

Mathre was taken to the Grant Regional Health Center with life-threatening injuries and later was flown to UW Hospital in Madison. He died Monday.
