Man found guilty in Madison woman’s 2021 murder

MADISON, Wis. — A 52-year-old man charged with killing a 31-year-old woman on Madison’s east side last year on the Fourth of July was found guilty of intentional homicide Friday evening, online court records show.
After just over five hours of deliberation following a four-and-a-half day trial, a jury found Tamas Smith guilty of a felony first-degree intentional homicide charge with domestic abuse and repeat offender modifiers.
Smith was accused of shooting Keairra Fields in the 1700 block of Onsgard Road early on the morning of July 4, 2021. Fields later died from her injuries.

Police arrested Smith in Indiana on an unrelated charge.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 2.
