Man barricaded in house with guns, ammunition surrenders, police say

MONROE, Wis. — A man who barricaded himself in a room with firearms and ammunition Wednesday afternoon eventually surrendered to Monroe police, according to a release.
Monroe police were called around 1:20 p.m. to a residence in the 1800 block of 8th Street for a report of a burglary in progress, officials said.
When officers arrived on scene, a man in the residence, identified as 31-year-old Shane D. Riley, of Monroe, withdrew to an upstairs bedroom and told officers he was armed, according to the release.
Investigators said Riley is a relative of the homeowners and had broken into the residence without permission while the homeowner was at work.
Police contacted surrounding residents and told them to stay inside and away from windows for safety during the incident, according to the release.
Riley, who was believed to be under the influence of some type of intoxicant, surrendered to police after about three hours, officials said.
Riley was arrested on tentative charges of criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to a dwelling and disorderly conduct.
