Man accused of sexual assault faces 116 years in prison

DNA testing leads to arrest in May case

MADISON, Wis. — A man accused of raping a woman on Madison’s south side in May faces up to 116 years in prison and $60,000 in fines, according to a criminal complaint.

A 44-year-old woman was walking on South Park Street to get medications for her hospitalized mother when she was approached from behind by a man wielding a handgun, according to a Madison Police Department report.

The man led her to a dark parking lot on North Wingra Drive and threatened to kill her before allegedly raping her, according to the complaint. He also tried to rob her of money, but she didn’t have any cash.

DNA testing done at the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory led to Weaver’s arrest on July 24.

Weaver is charged with first-degree sexual assault, attempted first-degree sexual assault, strangulation and suffocation, and attempted armed robbery with the use of a dangerous weapon.
