Prosecutors say Vogelsberg tortured, killed his half-brother

MADISON, Wis. — A man accused of killing his half-brother in Mazomanie is fighting extradition to Wisconsin.

Dane County sheriff’s officials said Jeffrey Vogelsberg, 28, moved to Washington state sometime after he tortured and killed his half-brother, 27-year-old Matthew Graville, then froze and buried his body near Mazomanie in July.

Vogelsberg is being held in custody in Washington state, and he is not waiving extradition to Wisconsin, where he is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse.

Because Vogelsberg is fighting his extradition, the Dane County district attorney must go to Gov. Scott Walker to request that Walker ask Washington’s governor to extradite Vogelsberg to Wisconsin.

The district attorney in Tacoma, Wash., said it could take at least 60 days for the whole process.

Prosecutors have also charged Vogelsberg’s landlord, Robert McCumber, with helping bury Graville’s body and Vogelsberg’s mother with using the dead man’s food stamp cards.
