Mallards remain undefeated, win fifth straight

The Madison Mallards claimed their fifth consecutive victory Sunday evening in Wisconsin Rapids. The Mallards defeated the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 11-2 at Witter Field, after their offense erupted for five runs in the top of the first inning.
The Mallards didn’t look back, eventually finishing with 12 hits – four for extra-bases –on their way to victory.
Jake Roberts helped fuel Madison’s offensive outburst, going 1-for-3 with two runs batted in and a pair of walks. Anthony Gonsolin also contributed, going 2-for-4 including a double, a stolen base and two runs batted in.
Starter Dalton D’Spain threw 3 2/3 innings of shutout ball on four hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. Josh Pierce, Fred Manke Scott Moss and Tyler Frohwirth combined to allow one earned run with four strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.
The Mallards return to the Duck Pond on Wednesday, June 3 against the Green Bay Bullfrogs on Joey’s Song Epilepsy Awareness Night.
