Mallards beat Kalamazoo in 2015 opener

The Mallards got their 2015 campaign off on the right foot with a 9-4 win over Kalamazoo Tuesday night at Warner Park.
Mallards starter Justin Hill had a shaky start, walking the bases loaded to begin the game. Hill rallied, limiting the Growlers to a run in the first inning. Hill ended up giving up two runs in three innings of work.
The Mallards got their offense going in the bottom of the third inning. Trailing 2-1, Cameron Frost legged out an infield single to tie the game at 2-2. Moments later, Anthony Gonsolin’s fly ball dropped into shallow right field, driving in two more runs and giving the Mallards a 4-2 lead.
From there, Madison never gave up the lead, tacking on four more runs in the fifth and another in the seventh to win it 9-4.
Kalamazoo and Madison play again Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
