Madison’s Lowell Elementary celebrates 100 years

A Madison school celebrated 100 years in the community Sunday.

Lowell Elementary School first opened its door Jan. 3, 1916 – 100 years ago this past weekend. The school commemorated the centennial mileston with the kick-off to its new fundraiser, aimed at renovating the school’s campus.

“We want the outdoor spaces to be inspiring, just as the schol itself is,” said Kim Neuschel, a Lowell parent and part of the Lowell Community Organization.

The goal is to raise $400,000 to create more green space, along with outdoor learning areas and a science center on the grounds surrounding the elementary.

“In the design we have a forest that flows through our playground, we have a seating areas for kids who maybe need more quiet and connection to nature,” Neuschel said.

The goal is to ensure this unique space continues to be an east-side hub for learning for the next generation.

“We want this campus to serve the next hundred years of Lowell.”
