Madison Teen Arrested In Craigslist Sting

A Madison man who had his West Side home burglarized back in November helped police find a suspect in his case, thanks to keeping an eye out on Craigslist.

Madison police said someone used a rock to smash a sliding glass door on a Betty’s Lane home on Nov. 11. The victim lost a laptop computer, a Jeep Cherokee, some alcohol and a couple of guitars.

However, the 37-year-old victim called police after seeing someone trying to sell two guitars on Craigslist that matched the description of the ones stolen from him.

Police said last Thursday, an undercover detective set up an appointment to purchase the guitars. It turns out the guitars were the ones stolen, according to police.

Officers arrested a 16-year old Madison teen on burglary charges in connection with the incident.

Police said detectives also recovered other property from the home, as well as items that may have been stolen in other crimes, including three guns. Following the arrest, officers were also able to locate the stolen Jeep Cherokee.
