Madison teachers, district come to agreement on 2015-16 contracts

Teachers came to an agreement with the Madison Metropolitan School District Tuesday night.

District officials said they reached a tentative agreement with Madison Teachers Incorporated and its five bargaining units.

The one-year agreements for the 2015-16 school year will be brought to the school board Wednesday for a vote.

“We decided to come together because we believe that collective bargaining works. Through this process, we have worked together to balance the stability our staff needs to do their best work with the urgency needed to make our vision as a district a reality,” MMSD Superintendent Jennifer Cheatham said in a release. “We believe we have come to an agreement that accomplishes those goals, and we are excited to continue our work together – to close opportunity gaps and raise achievement for all students. I want to thank MTI for working together through this collaborative process.”

MTI ratified the agreement at a meeting at the Alliant Energy Center Tuesday night.
