Madison police are trying to determine a potential connection between two recent burglaries where women were targeted.

The most recent incident took place earlier this week at an apartment on Howard Place. A woman called for help early Tuesday morning after she awoke to find a stranger inside her apartment, according to a release by the Madison Police Department.

The other happened on Aug. 25 along the 600 block of N. Frances Street. Police said in that case a man broke into a woman’s home and attempted to sexually assault her.

Both of these crimes targeted women in the early morning hours in the same geographic area, police said.

Police have released a surveillance photo in hopes someone will be able to identify the suspect.

Anyone with information about this person, or these crimes, is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.

Officers are also encouraging residents to continue to lock their doors and windows and to call police if they observe suspicious people or activities.
