Madison native picked for Russian ambassador post
Obama expected to announce nomination

MADISON, Wis. — A Madison native and Edgewood High School graduate could be the next Russian ambassador, according to a report from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
The White House said Thursday President Barack Obama is expected to nominate John Tefft to the post.
Tefft is a 1971 Marquette University grad and joined the Foreign Service in 1972.
His nomination comes at a time of strained relations between the U.S. and Russia. He has served as ambassador in Lithuania, Georgia and Ukraine.
His nomination must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
According to the report, Tefft is said to avidly follow the fortunes of the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers, Marquette basketball and Wisconsin football.
