Madison man sentenced for armed standoff, shooting at police

A Madison man was sentenced Thursday for barricading himself in his west side home and shooting at law enforcement officers last year.

Robert Carder, 54, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision.

Police responded to the 1500 block of Frisch Road last October for reports of shots fired during a domestic incident, officials said. Carder had barricaded himself inside a home, and shot multiple rounds at responding officers.

Carder came out of the house unarmed as the SWAT team was getting ready to make contact with him. Officers said the man was inside the home by himself, and the woman who called police got out of the house.
