Madison man arrested on drug charges after chase in Monona

MONONA, Wis. — A Madison man was arrested early Saturday after police said he led them on a chase in Monona.

Monona police said the man was seen driving 79 mph eastbound on the Beltline at South Towne Drive just before 12:30 a.m. The speed limit in that area is 55 mph.

An officer attempted to stop the man near US 51, however, he allegedly did not stop and began driving north on US 51. Another officer placed a set of tire deflation sticks along the road just north of Broadway. The suspect drove over the sticks, flattening his front-driver-side tire.

Police said the man exited onto Cottage Grove Road before driving over a curb near Atlas Avenue. After the vehicle stopped moving, the man was arrested.

News 3 Now is not naming the driver at this time as part of a policy not to name suspects until they have been formally charged in court. He faces charges of felony eluding an officer, possession with intent to deliver over 30 grams of cocaine, possession of THC, possession of drug paraphernalia and three counts of felony bail jumping.

Police said he also had three active arrest warrants from Dane County
