Madison man arrested after nearly hitting people with vehicle
MADISON, Wis. — Madison police arrested a man Monday who they said nearly hit several people with a vehicle at an east side grocery store.
Police were sent to the store in the 3800 block of East Washington Ave. at around 8:45 a.m. Police said a 36-year-old man was speeding through the parking lot and narrowly missed multiple customers. The store was placed on lockdown during the incident.
Tire-deflating devices were used to try and stop the vehicle, but the man kept going despite having three deflated tires. Police said he finally stopped to pick up a passenger, who had been inside the store buying him a birthday cake.
The man was arrested for operating while intoxicated and second-degree endangering safety. An investigation is ongoing.
