Madison LGBTQ+ bar hosts active shooter training
MADISON, Wis. — A local LGBTQ+ bar and nightclub opened its doors Saturday for an active shooter training.
The training comes in the wake of a deadly mass shooting at Club Q, an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, that left five people dead and 19 injured.
Saturday’s two-hour training at Five Nightclub helped prepare attendees on how to respond during a shooting situation. Madison police led the session, which was offered free of charge.
“At the beginning of every event we always talk about our exits, where to go, which is something we’ve never done before but now it’s just a natural thing that we do,” owner Dave Eick said. “This seminar was just another tool.”
Five has its own ties to Club Q. A former doorperson at Five is now the general manager at Club Q.
