Madison, Beloit Christmas tree collection begins Jan. 3
MADISON, Wis. — With the presents unwrapped, Christmas time is wrapping up. That means it’s time to dispose of your Christmas tree.
Tree collection in Madison is set to being on Jan. 3. The second and final collection round will begin on Jan. 17. Both collections are weather dependent.
There are some rules to remember before leaving your tree by the curb, and failing to follow them could lead to your tree not being picked up.
- Remove all tree stands.
- Remove all tree decorations, like lights and ornaments
- Remove any tree bags.
If you have any wreaths, garlands or boughs, don’t place them with your tree for collection. Place them in the trash.
Trees need to be placed on the road’s edge, in a place that is accessible for workers. If your tree becomes covered in snow before it is collected, it is your responsibility to clear it off.
Residents wanting to have their tree collected in the first round should leave their tree out by 6:30am on Jan. 3. Those trees will be picked up between Jan. 3 and Jan. 13, weather permitting.
Residents participating in the second round should leave their tree out by 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 17. Those trees will be picked up between Jan. 17 and Jan. 27.
Any trees not left out on Jan. 17 may not be picked up until April. Residents can also bring trees to a Streets Division drop-off site.
In Beloit, tree collection also begins Jan. 3 and runs through Jan. 13. Residents should put their trees at the curb by 6 a.m. on their normal collection day.
Beloit residents can also drop off their trees at the Recycling Drop Off Center beginning Jan. 7.
