Mabel L. Shippy

Age 75 of Monroe, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at her home following a 23 year battle with cancer. Mabel was born on May 31, 1937 in Washington Township, rural Monticello, the daughter of Conrad and Rose (Duerst) Elmer.
After graduating from Monticello High School in 1955, Mabel was employed at Oaktron Industries and later Swiss Colony until retirement. She married Duane Shippy on May 24, 1958 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, Pennsylvania flea markets, trips to the casino, the outdoors, and baking for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Duane Shippy of Monroe; three children, Randall Shippy of Evansville, Lora Everson (fiancé Joel Nall) of Argyle, Scott (Kris) Shippy of Monroe; four grandchildren, Justin Everson, Jamie Everson (fiancé Ryan Grenzow), Lauryn Shippy, and Morgan Shippy; a great grandson, Landen Shippy, all of Monroe; three sisters, Charlotte Tresner of Monroe, Carolyn (Dave) Pederson of Sauk City, WI, Doris Aebly of New Glarus; a brother, Sylvan Elmer of Burlington, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Irene Neuenschwander, Velma Schutte, and Elfa Wenger; and brothers, Vernon, Melvin, John”Sonny”, and Harvey Elmer.
Private family graveside services will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, at a later date. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Monroe Clinic Hospice or Monroe E.M.S. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
