Lydia Kalaida

MADISON-Lydia Kalaida, age 88, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2012, at her home. She was born on December 19, 1923, in New York, the daughter of Boris and Nataliya Kalaida.
Lydia was an associate professor of Russian Language at UW-Madison and director of the UW Slavic Choir. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and authored her own cookbook. Lydia most enjoyed spending time with her dogs and her friends.
Lydia is survived by her many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. at ASSUMPTION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH, 11 N. Seventh Street, with Father Michael Vanderhoef presiding. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Olbrich Botanical Gardens, 3330 Atwood Ave., Madison, WI 53704 or Dane County Humane Society, 5132 Voges Road, Madison, WI 53718.
