Louise J. Mills

Louise J. Mills, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at St. Mary’s Care Center. She was born on Feb. 17, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Jacob and Louise (Sebastian) Bosch.

Louise graduated from Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Ill. She married Charles William “Bill” Mills on July 3, 1946, in Brooklyn, N.Y. During World War II she packed parachutes for the soldiers. Later, she owned and operated an antique store in Jacksonville where she enjoyed meeting new customers and sharing her passion for antiques.

During her younger years, Louise enjoyed bowling. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. When her children were grown, she was very active in a bridge club. She was also a charter member of the WWII National Museum in New Orleans, a project that was close to her heart.

Louise is survived by her children, Mary Ellen (Steve) Rhoades, Carol Russell and Jill Mills; daughter-in-law, Tracy Mills; son-in-law, Ron Schaecher; 12 grandchildren, Robert, Heather and Dustin Rhoades, Brooke Smith, Megan and Caleb Schaecher, Kyle Russell, Josh, Joey and Jenny Mutch and Jacob and Andy Mills; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; daughter, Suzie Schaecher; son, Charles W. “Chip” Mills and son-in-law, Bobby Russell.

A private family service will be held at Diamond Grove Cemetery, Jacksonville, Ill. at a later date. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison, for all their tender loving care. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
