Lois M. Schmitz

CROSS PLAINS-Lois M. Schmitz, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.

She was born on March 20, 1949, in Madison, the daughter of Ray and Florence (Wipperfurth) Meffert and was a hair designer at Jim’s Westgate Salon. Lois married Gerald D. Schmitz on May 10, 1969, in Ashton. He was the love of her life. Jerry (51) preceded her in death on September 25, 1993.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She shared her big smile and love of baking. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Lois is survived by two daughters, Melissa (Michael) Ott of Black Earth and Lori (Jeff) Gruel of Lodi; four grandchildren, Jacob and Chloe Ott and Norah and Sydney Gruel; a sister, Carol (Richard) Zwettler of Cross Plains; a brother, Steve (Marilyn Ballweg) Meffert of Middleton; brothers-in-law, Eugene (Judy Anderson) Schmitz of Cross Plains and Mike (Karen) Schmitz of Lodi; sisters-in-law, Margie (Jerry) Murphy of Egan, Minn., Mary Ann (Martin) Banuelos of Morrisonville and Evelyn Goodwin of De Forest; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Florence Meffert; mother and father-in-law, Evelyn Bonner and Donald (Ann) Schmitz and three brothers-in-law, Bob, Ken and Bill Goodwin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes Street, Cross Plains at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, with Father Thomas Kelley presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The family would like to thank Frankie Niesen and the UW Hospital Trauma and TLC teams for their special care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Francis Endowment Fund or the family will establish a charity of choice at a later date.
