WiscoBoxes actually started as an idea to sell more Botham Vineyards wine.

“Because if you’re not innovating, you’re dying,” says Sarah Botham. She wears a lot of hats: director of marketing for family business Botham Vineyards & Winery; faculty educator at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; founder of businesses Botham, INK and Acala Farms, and now WiscoBoxes, the all-Wisconsin-products online gift box company she launched in March 2017. Only a year later, WiscoBoxes has curated and shipped products by 68 Wisconsin makers from 34 cities into the homes of customers hungry for locally made food and wares. They operate out of a house on Main Street in Mount Horeb. During the 2017 winter holiday season, Botham says, “We easily shipped hundreds of boxes every few days.”

“We knew there would be plenty of [Wisconsin] products available, but we were surprised by the quality and variety and diversity of the options, and there’s always something new we haven’t heard of,” says Botham. Everything in a WiscoBox comes from a Wisconsin maker, including the box itself. Customers either build their own or choose from themed boxes featuring artists such as Madison’s Toast Ceramics and food products like Bucky Badger popcorn and sausage, Hook’s and Carr Valley cheese, Potters Crackers, Cookies by Kate and chocolates from Sjölinds, Gail Ambrosius Chocolatier and dozens of others – but there’s only one choice for wine.
