Local furniture store to help Porchlight Safe Haven stay open

A Madison homeless shelter will hopefully stay open after an area business decided to help out and ask for support from other area businesses.

A1 Furniture told News 3 it will make a donation to help Porchlight’s Safe Haven Shelter open. They will also issue a challenge to other Madison businesses to match their contribution to hopefully meet the center’s funding needs next year.

The facility provides those dealing with homelessness and mental illness housing, meals and other basic needs.

For the first time in 22 years, Safe Haven is not receiving $350,000 in federal funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Representatives with A1 Furniture will release the details of their donation during a press conference Thursday afternoon.
