LeRoy A. Gundlach

WAUNAKEE-LeRoy A. Gundlach, age 88, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Oakwood East Rehabilitation Center. He was born on April 7, 1924, in Madison, the son of Albert and Muriel (Veith) Gundlach. LeRoy grew up on Madison’s east side, graduating from East High School in 1942. The following year, he entered the United States Army Force and served in the European Theatre of Operations in World War II. On October 27, 1951, LeRoy was united in marriage to Eileen Goodell at First Presbyterian Church in Prairie du Sac. For over 20 years he worked as a printer in a number of printing establishments in Madison. In 1968, LeRoy began employment with the State of Wisconsin-Dept. of Industry, Labor & Human Relations where he was employed as District Representative for the Apprenticeship and Training Bureau and later as a Placement Specialist for the Job Service. LeRoy was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Doric Lodge #356 F&AM and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 11244. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and fishing (especially in Alaska), and a cup of coffee with the ROMEOs at the Waunakee Village Center.

LeRoy is survived by his wife, Eileen; daughter, Nancy of Waunakee; brother-in-law, Allan (Sharon) Goodell; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Neumaier; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian; and his sister, Jeanette (Herman) Gorz, Lincon, Neb.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, with Rev. Curt Everson presiding. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in LeRoy’s name to Lakeview Lutheran Cemetery Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
