Legislators to hold hearing on blaze pink hunting garb

The bill that would legalize blaze pink clothing for hunters is set for a public hearing in Madison.

The state Assembly’s natural resources committee has scheduled the hearing for the morning of Oct. 14 at the state Capitol.

A bipartisan group of legislators introduced the bill earlier this year. They say the proposal is designed to attract more women to hunting and they hope it will encourage apparel manufacturers to partner with nonprofit groups working to get more people, both men and women, interested in the sport.

Under current state law, no one can hunt anything except waterfowl during a gun deer season unless at least half of each article of clothing worn above the waist is blaze orange. Violators face $10 forfeitures.
