League of Women Voters questionnaire gives insight on candidates

One of the more unfortunate results of modern communications strategies and technology is the ability of elected officials, and candidates for elected officer, to avoid answering questions. Too often politicians use their own staffs and paid consultants to deliver the messages they choose to deliver and only those messages.

That’s what makes the League of Women Voters Candidates Answers questionnaire and Vote411.org site so valuable and needed.

The League has sent questionnaires to 311 candidates running in the fall elections. It will publish the answers online at Vote411.org in mid-July or so. Some local Leagues will also publish printed voter guides.

We’ve made it clear in the post that we believe voters should not vote for candidates who refuse or neglect to respond to the League’s questionnaire. We plan to do so again.

We ask in advance that all candidates answer all questions completely and honestly. We’ll let you know who chooses not to later this summer.
