LaVerne Marten

CROSS PLAINS/LOGANVILLE-LaVerne “Vern” Marten, age 61, of Cross Plains, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2012 at the UW Hospital in Madison. He was born on November 15, 1950 in Madison, the son of Willard and Henrietta (Juris) Marten.

Vern was united in marriage to the love of his life, Sharon Amble, on August 5, 1972 in St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. Vern proudly farmed his entire life.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two sons, Justin (Raeann Bowman) Marten and Joshua (Madeline) Marten; five grandchildren, Jared, Lillian, Jackson, Brianna and Jaden; his father, Willard Marten; four sisters, Beverly (Roger) Clason, Carol Jean Kirk, Elaine (Gary) Meister, and Bonnie (Harold) Haag. He is further survived by nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Vern was preceded in death by his mother, Henrietta.

Funeral services will be held at ST. MARTIN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2417 Church Street, Cross Plains, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 30, 2012, with the Reverend Rick Lund presiding. Burial will be in Valley Home Cemetery, Cross Plains. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and also on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of the UW Hospital, the Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Palliative Care Unit for their wonderful care and support shown to Vern and his family.
