Laverne L. Schulenburg

MADISON-LaVerne L. Schulenburg, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on Aug. 20, 1921, in Middleton, the son of Henry and Elise (Thelke) Schulenburg. LaVerne went to Middleton High School and attended Madison Business College. He served his country in World War II from 1942 until 1946. He then went to work for the Dane County Highway Department, often going by the nicknames of “Shimmel” and “Whitey”.

LaVerne married Louise (Richardt) D’Amour on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2001, in Monona. He was an avid Badgers, Packers, and basketball fan. He is survived by his wife, Louise; brothers, Elmore Schulenburg of Sun Prairie and Melvin Schulenburg of Cassville; and sister, Carol (Neil) Gates of Colorado. He is further survived by his step –family including daughter, Tammy D’Amour; grandchildren, Rosemary, Shawn and Justin; two great-grandsons, Corey and Anthony; many nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice; his parents; and his sister-in-law, Helen Schulenburg.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012, with Chaplain Stuart McCoy presiding. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. A special thank you to Brenda, Megan, Tina and others at Karmenta, the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, and Meriter Hospital, especially to Mary Jo and Heidi, for the loving care given to LaVerne.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.

Service:
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2012, with Chaplain Stuart McCoy presiding.

Cemetery:
Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
