Laura Estelle Gassen

MADISON- Laura Estelle Gassen, age 92, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at her home. She was born in Madison on Jan. 19, 1921. Laura married William Bowman, who preceded her in death, and later married Harold Gassen, who also preceded her in death. During WWII, Laura worked for Badger Ammunition to help support our country. She then worked for the Transportation Department for the State of Wisconsin. Laura enjoyed polka dancing, gardening, baking biscuits and bean soup, coffee, the radio and cats and sports.

She is survived by her nephew, Michael (Sharon) MacDonald; niece, Ruth (Al) Fiege; and great-nephew, Jason (Christy) Fiege. Laura was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; sister, Harriet MacDonald; brother, Harry Williams; and a niece, Josephine MacDonald.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, with Chaplain Deborah Holbrook presiding. Burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Memorials may be made to Dane County Humane Society.
