Lamp House Block design workshop scheduled

The city of Madison has scheduled a workshop Tuesday for members of the public to share ideas for the future of the downtown city block that houses the historic Lamp House.

The Lamp House Block Ad Hoc Plan Committee will be using input gathered at the workshop to help guide their future land use and design recommendations to the Plan Commission and Common Council, according to a release. The block is bounded by North Webster, East Mifflin and North Butler streets and East Washington Avenue.

The Lamp House was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1903 for his childhood friend Robert Lamp, according to the release. The home was described as having an urban setting given a suburban flavor by the landscaping and a roof garden. Wright used the cube-like shape and efficient floor plan in a number of his later designs.

The design workshop is scheduled Tuesday from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Overture Center’s Rotunda Studio at 201 State Street.
