Sun Prairie – Lamont E. “Matt” Mathews passed into his eternal rest on Monday, November 21, 2022, at UW Hospital, Madison with family by his side.

Matt was born to Eleanor and William “Bill” Mathews on July 9, 1943, in West Allis, WI. Matt graduated high school and served in the Airforce where he learned to be a mechanic. He worked for many years servicing refrigeration units for Thermo-King and Carrier.

He was united in marriage for 52 years to the love of his life, Kathleen Mary “Kathy” Enders on June 10, 1967, in Wabeno, WI. Some of his most cherished friends were Kathy’s siblings and their spouses.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, cooking, and reading and spoiling his grandkids. He will be fondly remembered for his no-nonsense attitude and his special recipe popcorn and Chili and Packers parties.

He is survived by his 3 children, Tom Mathews (Leslie Camfield), Cheryl May (Tony), Christine Ameigh (Garrett), his grandchildren Sam, Elizabeth and James; his in-laws: Mary Rothbauer (Don), Charles “Chuck” Enders (Carole) and Sue Wilson (Larry), Jan Volk, Valoise “Val” Enders and his cat, Cindy.

Matt was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy, his parents and siblings Ron and Clyde; and in-laws Bill, Ron, Carol, Rocky and Nancy.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at St. Albert the Great Church, 2420 St. Albert the Great Drive, Sun Prairie with Father Donn Heiar presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of mass. Matt will be buried next to Kathy at the Natural Path Sanctuary in Verona on Friday, November 25, 2022.
