LaFleur wants energy, Gutekunst wants improvement

Packers preseason moves forward

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur hasn’t hidden the fact that he wants to have a high-energy environment at his practices. This week, he said he’s holding his assistant coaches responsible if he doesn’t think the energy level is high enough.

“I still want more energy. I still want more juice. And I was getting on our coaches, because I really think it starts with us as a coaching staff,” LaFleur said. “We gotta bring it every day if we expect the same out of our players.”

Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst said there were tackling issues during last week’s preseason opener against the Texans. He said that’s not surprising, but the question now is whether players can correct their mistakes as the preseason moves along.

“We’re not trying to take the 53 best players, we’re trying to take the 53 best that make the best team,” Gutekunst said. “As we go through each position and stack it, but then you start going across the board. Those conversations will start to happen probably a week prior to Kansas City.”

The final roster cut is August 31st.
