Ladis J. Wenzel, age 90, of Janesville and formerly of Chicago, was called home on Monday, March 26, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 14, 1921, in Einsiedel, Slovakia, the son of Jakob and Dorothea (Stark) Wenzel. Ladis served in the German Army, and came to Chicago in 1956 with his wife, Helene (Schnurer). He was a member of the Chicago Carpenters Union Local #54 for 52 years. His passions were music, dancing, working with his hands and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Helene; and during their 59 years of marriage, they were blessed with 6 children: Peter (Nancy) Wenzel, Doris (Randall) Nicholson, Susie (Todd) Blue, Freddy (Lisa) Wenzel and Heidi (Brian) Richards; loving opa of Marc, Julie (Matthew), Timothy, Ashley, Matthew (Erin), Christy, Amanda, Jeffery and Rebecca; step opa to Michelle (Joseph) and James (Samantha); popa to 5 great grandchildren: Courtney, Marc, Carter, Caroline and Claire; and step popa to Joseph, Ryan and Emma. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Magdalena.

A Private Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the family’s house in Janesville. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Mercy Hospice Care, 901 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville, WI 53548.
