Kleefisch closes tax reform round table to press

The first in a series of round table discussions about Wisconsin’s tax code and possible changes Gov. Scott Walker may seek is closed to the press.

Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch closed Monday’s event at Beloit College. A reporter for the Beloit Daily News tried to attend, but was not allowed in until near the end of the event.

Kleefisch chief of staff Casey Himebauch said Wednesday that is “standard operating procedure” for round table discussions with business leaders. He says, “The majority of the event is closed to the press to allow the participants to speak freely without worrying about what they have to say.”

Himebauch says similar events next week in Superior and Eau Claire are by invite only and will also not be open to press.
