Kimberly Sue Meton

Kimberly Sue Meton

Kimberly Sue DeVore Meton left her earthly home for her eternal home on April 28, 2012, at the age of 50, following over a year-long bout with a cancer of unknown origin.

Kimberly was born to Harold Elwood DeVore and Shirley Laree Braddy DeVore on Sept. 24, 1961, in Decatur, IL. Kimberly fondly remembered her childhood in Decatur, and later in Belleville, IL, with her parents and her younger brother, Steven. She learned to play the flute and other woodwind instruments early in her school years; and she played extensively throughout her high school years at Belleville Township High School East, in her college years at Fellowship Baptist College in East Peoria, IL, and also in the years following in her career as a Graduate of Christian Education and while attending the University of Wisconsin.

Kim met Norlen Meton in her first semester at college, and they were married prior to their senior year, on June 27, 1981, in Kim’s last few months as a teenager. Kimberly returned to college many years later, graduating from the University of Wisconsin College – Rock County with the Associate of Arts and Science Degree, and she continued, completing her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Kim promptly put her Bachelor degree to use by working in the digital pre-press department, first at Freedom Graphic Systems in Milton, WI, and later at the Shopko General Offices in Green Bay, WI, working at each job for several years. Kim enjoyed her co-workers, and her line of work was fulfilling for her.

Kim enjoyed many hobbies and crafts, including counted cross-stitch, crochet, genealogy studies, art media including photography, painting and ceramics, varied types of music including classical, country, and bluegrass, and she was an avid reader on many subjects. Anyone who knew Kim would agree that she was a soft-spoken and sweet person who also knew her topics and lived with strong beliefs.

Kim faced her cancer diagnosis and her entry into home hospice care very directly, with grace, and with concern for others more than for herself.

Kimberly is survived by her husband of 30 years, Norlen, of Suamico, WI; her mother, Shirley and her brother, Steven, both of Waterloo, IL; a half-brother, James DeVore, of Merritt Island, FL; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Kim was preceded in death by her father and a half-brother, Larry DeVore.
A celebration of Kimberly’s life will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY (1800 East Racine St. Janesville, WI) with Rev. Steve Dean officiating.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank Green Bay Oncology, St. Vincent Hospital, and Unity Hospice for their supportive care over the past fifteen months.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, contributions supporting cancer research are also encouraged.
