Kenneth Ramsden

Kenneth W. Ramsden, 91, of Richland Center passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Schmitt Woodland Hills. He was born on January 20, 1931, in Highland to Willard and Mildred (Hagenston) Ramsden. Ken graduated from Highland High School and attended UW Platteville. He served his country in the US Army, in the Korean War, as a Radio Telephone Operator (RTO). After his honorable discharge, he enrolled in DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. After graduation, he went to work for Emerson Electric in St. Louis, Mo. in a variety of functions that included developing a new operating system for B-52s.

Ken was introduced to Alice Spangler by her cousin, and the couple was married on August 28, 1959, at the Pratt Chapel in Richland Center. The couple moved to Bridgeport, Missouri, where Ken continued to work for Emerson Electric. Alice missed farming so the couple moved back to Richland County and purchased a farm in Sylvan Township in 1963. The couple raised and milked Registered Jersey cattle and soon after represented Richland County in the Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers Leadership program.

Ken worked as a substitute postal carrier while farming. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau Board, Rockhounds of America, the coin collector club, and HAM Radio Club. Plus, Ken was the Sylvan Township assessor for several years. After Ken and Alice sold the farm in 1997, Ken delivered Shopping News and the Wisconsin State Journal. He also worked part-time for Kwik Trip and Walmart. He loved going to auctions and really liked purchasing dish sets as well as other antiques and artifacts. What Ken really loved the most was meeting with others and engaging in conversation. He always had a caring heart to know each and every person he met and seemed to always have a story to tell about others’ lives.

Ken is survived by his children: Kendall (Carole) Ramsden of Richland Center, Allison (Rodney) Moore of Baraboo; grandson Evan Venitsky; siblings: Ron Ramsden of Verona, Paul (Kathy) Ramsden of Barneveld, Dean (Jane) Ramsden of Kansas City, MO, Gary Ramsden of Waunakee many other relatives and friends.
