Kenneth Arthur Geier

MADISON- Kenneth Arthur Geier, age 79, passed away on January 11, 2013, at his home.
Ken was born on May 9, 1933, the son of Julius and Helen (Dettman) Geier, and graduated from West High School in Madison. On April 16, 1955, he married Irene Julson of Oxford. Married 56 years, they called Madison home, raising four children and delighting in their grandchildren.
Ken was self-employed as a painter and wallpaper installer and was known for the quality of his work. He bowled in the Classic and Major Leagues at Schwoegler’s where he was known as “Buck,” enjoyed deer hunting with his buddies and made a daily habit of matching wits with the crossword puzzle. He and Irene enjoyed square dancing and Ken took immense pleasure in old-time country and western “cowboy” music. In the 1980s, he lent much talent, time and energy to the restoration of his friend Tom Church’s antique schooner the “Nor’wester” and together with their wives they enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan.
He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Majerus of Fitchburg; sons, Tom (Sandy) Geier of Madison, Steve (Connie) Geier of Belleville and David (Sheila) Geier of Middleton; four grandchildren, Mandy and Kyle Majerus, Sam Geier and Jeremy Goecks-Majerus. He will be missed by his surviving brother, Julius, Jr. (Janice) Geier, as well as many relatives, neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2011; and brothers, Richard (Bud) and Theodore (Ted).
